EDUSAT - ISRO Project (Yashbharti Studio):

This university was selected by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) for operating the pilot phase prior to launching the EDUSAT, a satellite dedicated to education. The aim of this project was to set up a sustainable distance education service in India using satellite as a supplementary communications medium and using advanced ground technology of convergence.

In the second phase of the project, new techniques of distance education using DVBS (Digital Video Broadcasting System) were introduced.  The following is the infrastructure available in YCMOU for using the satellite-based technology for educational purposes.

Hub at YCMOU Headquarters:

An uplink Hub is located at YCMOU campus and a separate studio, ‘Yashbharti’ with full-fledged facilities has been constructed. An Ext.-C band uplink has been provided by ISRO.

Uplink terminal:

An Ext.-C band uplink is installed at the location selected by YCMOU with data rate up to 2 MBPS.

Interactive terminal:

Virtual Learning Centres (VLCs) have been set up with the help of ISRO at various locations in the State (mostly colleges/ educational institutions) for receiving the satellite-based inputs and to facilitate students registered at these Centres in participating in an interactive learning experience.

Sub-Studios at Pune and Mumbai

With the help of specially constructed studios at Pune and Nasik as well as the network of VLCs created throughout the State, experts are able to deliver specialised content to distant tribal and rural locations, thereby increasing access to high quality education even in the relatively disadvantaged regions in Maharashtra.
